The Municipality of Belovo has developed and approved a municipal plan for sustainable development that includes the objectives set up in the ASTWOOD project.  

Surrounding Belovo is seven villages, seventy-six percent of the area comprises forests. The inhabitants obtain their livelihood from forestry, carpentry industries, trade and other services.  The Belovo paper mill is the largest and best-known local industrial entity, and there are also numerous smaller firms dealing in forestry products and employing citizens. This diverse landscape, together with the water resources, provides an opportunity for the development of electricity production through hydro power stations and waterfalls.
