The Association of Municipalities Sierra de Gata is formed by 19 municipalities.

This Association of Municipalities was created in 1992, to provide services to the municipalities themselves and to the local population, to improve the socio economical conditions of the municipalities of the area, and to promote the economic development of Sierra de Gata area.

The Association of Municipalities provides several services. It is working in several environmental promotion programmes, as the conservation and environmental promotion are the pillars of local development and tourism of this region. At the moment it has an environmental training and education technician who collaborates with the City councils to control and design environmental policies.

This association of municipalities also collaborates with other programmes for the protection and enhancement of natural resources, within a broader environmental sustainability strategy.
